With accomplished musicianship and a healthy dose of reggae, The Ruts were a band that were never constrained by the punk genre. Formed in London in 1977, the band found fame two years later when they signed to Virgin Records and their second single, Babylon’s Burning, reached the top 10 of the UK singles chart. Their debut album charted in the top twenty but their success was cut short by the tragic death of their singer Malcolm Owen in 1980 at the age of 26. The remaining members decided to continue, adding D.C (standing for the Italian term da capo, meaning back to the beginning) to their name. They released two albums, Animal Now and Rhythm Collision, before disbanding in 1983. After guitarist Paul Fox passed away in 2007, bassist Segs and drummer Dave Ruffy reformed to release an album and have been successfully touring and recording ever since.
