BERNARD BUTLER
Weds 30th Oct 18:45 @The Old Market
Butler joined London indie sensations Suede in 1989 after answering an advert placed in the NME. Their second demo won the Demo Clash competition on Greater London Radio five Sundays in a row. They eventually signed to Nude Records in 1992 and became darlings of the music press, with their debut album selling 100,000 copies in its first week of release. During the recording of their second album Butler left the band and immediately teamed up with singer David McAlmont to release two singles. After this he released two solo albums on Creation Records which earned him a BRIT nomination before reuniting with Suede frontman Brett Anderson to form The Tears. As well as being one of the defining guitarists of the era, playing for Pet Shop Boys and Robert Plant, he has also produced seminal releases by The Libertines, Tricky, Paloma Faith and Duffy’s Grammy Award-winning debut, Rockferry.
