Released in 1982 and based on the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Blade Runner was director Ridley Scott’s next film project after Alien in 1979 and, despite underperforming at the time, has become a much revered sci-fi classic. Set in a dystopian Los Angeles of 2019 where synthetic humans, known as replicants, are bio-engineered to work on mining colonies, a fugitive group of them escape to Earth and it is up to burnt out cop, Rick Deckard, to hunt them down. The script was originally written with veteran actor Robert Mitchum in mind as the lead but Harrison Ford was eventually cast and made the role his own. Seven different versions of the film exist but tonight it is the Final Cut that will be shown on a vast HD screen with the iconic score by Vangelis performed live by The Avex Ensemble.
