Each month Discover features a local person who tickles the fancy of others with their fierce style and personality. For the Pride issue we interviewed Charles Dean, a part time model who also runs a coffee shop in Brighton called Charlie’s Grinder. Charlie is a regular on the Brighton scene and is known for his exquisite and quirky style. If you know someone or would like to be featured yourself – get in touch @discover_brighton
Name – Charles Dean
Occupation – Queer Coffee House Owner called Charlie’s Grinder, 96 North Road, Brighton (shameless plug)
Style influences – Freddie Mercury, Boy George, Madonna
Fave places to shop – Any vintage shop, Vintage80scasuals in London, Modfather Clothing. I like to stand out from the crowd and mix things up. One of my favourite pieces is a black lace corset that winches my waist in, I style this with a sharp suit and sometimes a hat.
Something only my friends know – I once told Prince (King) Charles how much I fancy Prince Harry, not sure how impressed he was with this information!
Favourite things about Brighton – The eclectic mix of people that come into the coffee shop I run. I love that living in Brighton allows people to express themselves fully with how they dress or to have a creative outlet. You should definitely come and visit me for a coffee, I’ve only just opened the shop and things are already going from strength to strength.
