Words by Samantha Harman

Brighton is a vibrant and exciting city, but there are plenty of great days out to be had beyond its borders. Here are Discover’s recommendations of the best day trips you can take

1. Lewes: Just a short train ride from Brighton, Lewes is a charming market town with plenty of history. You can visit Lewes Castle, stroll around the town’s quaint streets, and enjoy a pint at one of its many pubs. Lewes is also home to the stunning South Downs National Park, which offers miles of walking trails and breathtaking views.

2. Arundel: This picturesque town is home to Arundel Castle, a medieval fortress that has been home to the Duke of Norfolk for over 400 years. You can explore the castle’s stunning gardens and state rooms, and learn about its fascinating history. Arundel is also home to a range of independent shops, cafes, and galleries.

3. Seven Sisters: This iconic stretch of coastline is just a short bus ride from Brighton. The cliffs, which rise up to 200 meters above sea level, offer stunning views of the sea and the surrounding countryside. You can walk along the cliff tops and enjoy a picnic on the beach below.

4. Chichester: This historic city is home to a range of attractions, including Chichester Cathedral, the Novium Museum, and the Pallant House Gallery. You can also enjoy a stroll around the city’s charming streets, which are lined with independent shops, cafes, and restaurants.

5. Eastbourne: This popular seaside resort is just a short train ride from Brighton. You can enjoy a stroll along its famous Victorian pier, visit the Towner Art Gallery, or explore the stunning South Downs National Park, which is just a short distance away.

These are just a few of the many great day trips you can take from Brighton. Whether you’re interested in history, culture, or the great outdoors, there’s something for everyone within easy reach of this vibrant city. Why not hop onto a Brighton & Hove Bus? Saves the parking and means you can enjoy a beverage or two.
