Embroidery Workshop: Medusa

A beginner to intermediate embroidery workshop celebrating the great myth of Medusa, in a mindful way that’s designed engage you critically.
Medusa is one of mythology’s great female figures: sometimes misunderstood, sometimes celebrated, sometimes feared. Her story has been interpreted in many different ways, making her a fascinating starting point for a creative and reflective stitching session.

This Halloween workshop invites you to sit down, slow down and sew while exploring your own response to Medusa. As you stitch, we’ll talk about how making something by hand can give us space to think through how we feel about an idea, an image or a story.

What will you learn?
This is an introduction to a range of hand embroidery techniques. Together, we’ll explore:
– Backstitch
– Running stitch
– Split stitch
– Satin stitch
– Fly stitch — time permitting
Along the way, I’ll share some of my own tips and tricks, including threading, stretching your fabric and how I back my finished work.
This is very much how I do it rather than a claim that it’s the only or “best” way! Embroidery is full of different approaches, and part of the fun is discovering what works for you.
The aim is to give you an introduction to this particular style of embroidery, while creating something you can continue working on in your own time.

Packs include:
– Medusa sampler
– Embroidery hoop
– All materials needed to get started
– 2 hours of tuition and guidance
– Stitch instructions and tips to take away

Beginners are very welcome. No previous embroidery experience is needed.
Please note: The photograph shows a work in progress, not the finished sampler. The completed piece will be shared on Instagram once it’s finished.
