Jessie Marie AKA Beau-Events & BeauBottletops

The second half of this year is about pushing the boundaries within the Brighton art world and facing the challenges we are up against as independent artists – head on.

BeauBottletops was born over 10 years ago, and I have consistently hit roadblocks and financial restraints when trying to get the visibility my artwork needs to move it to the next level. So, four years ago I decided to create my own platform, I looked at what my younger self needed as an artist, to flourish, and I have poured that into Beau-Events Art & Makers Markets, to be able to create a much-needed platform in the city for both emerging and established artists and makers.

Since the beginning, I have maintained one key value – accessibility, this hasn’t always been easy with rising costs of, well, everything. However, I have such a strong belief in our artistic community, and I truly admire independent artists and makers for how hard they work, their efforts do not go unnoticed, and Beau-Events is an organisation that helps to champion and support this in all the necessary ways.

This community has grown into something exceptional, the events themselves are filled to the brim with remarkable talent, products and artwork of an outstandingly high calibre, and, finally, I feel we are making a shift back towards shopping independently.

This city has so much to offer, and I have been fortunate enough to make connections with venues and people who understand what I am trying to do with Beau-Events, if we all work together we can make a permanent difference in our art scene, and keep pop-up exhibitions, events and markets sustainable and at the centre of things to do in Brighton. Consistency is key, I am more excited than ever to fill the city with colour through opportunities with Beau-Events and have already started to expand into new spaces.

My events encourage networking, support of one another, new friendships, other opportunities, visibility and so much more. We still have a way to go, but we are on the path to making a change, and I am grateful to every single person who joins me on this journey.

Next Beau-Events to look out for are on Sun 9 Aug on New Road and Sat 29 Aug at Jubilee Square, we really hope you will join us to see what this incredible community has to offer.
