Romany and David Gilmour at The Neptune

1 Oct, 2024

David Gilmour’s Surprise Performance Alongside Daughter Romany Gilmour At The Neptune Inn.

The Neptune Inn Hove is a friendly community pub and bustling live music venue, with regular open mic nights every Monday evening.

Imagine the delight of landlord Bertie and his regulars when Pink Floyd legend David Gilmour arrived unannounced, guitar in hand recently to accompany daughter Romany Gimour on their tiny stage.

Romany had just performed a short set featuring excellent covers of Leonard Cohen’s ‘If It Be Your Will’ and Joanna Newsom’s, ‘This Side Of Blue’, followed by her own impressive composition, ‘Lily Of The Roses’.As her set drew to a close, she noticed dad David in the crowd, saying, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re here, and you’ve brought your guitar, you’re going to come and upstage me? OK, great!’ The stage is just slightly smaller than what the Pink Floyd singer songwriter is used to, and customers couldn’t believe their luck when the pair performed a rendition of the iconic Pink Floyd song ‘Wish You Were Here.’

Romany has recently been thrust into the limelight thanks to duetting with her dad on a cover of British dream pop duo The Montgolfier Brothers’ Between Two Points, which features on David’s just-released new solo album Luck And Strange, on which she also plays harp and sings backing vocals. Landlord Bernie revealed, ‘It was an electrifying night, I’ve never heard the pub so quiet whilst someone played. The Neptune has been known as a live music venue for at least 30 years, so it means a great deal to us all that David Gilmour and his daughter, Romany, chose us to duet together. We have live acts on Friday, Saturday and Sundays every week, plus our Open Mic night on Mondays. Having someone of the Gilmour family’s quality play here only strengthens our motto “Keeping Music Live”.’

In November, it will be the Landlady’s, Jan Ayre, 25th year of owning The Neptune. Having David Gilmour play on her pubs stage was a dream come true, she still couldn’t believe it the following day!”

Join The Neptune for a great selection of quality draught beers and ciders, well-kept cask ales, a lovely top shelf, and a fantastic roster of live bands from the local music scene. If you’re looking for a traditional boozer with great entertainment every week and a warm welcome, you’ve found it! Pop in for a pint and say hello, you never know who may appear on stage…
