The Only Dating App for 18–28-Year-Olds Designed for Gen Z by Gen Z.

The app is also the world’s safest. Why? Because no other dating app requires facial recognition verification. During lockdown, Slide1828 founder and CEO Ethan Martin observed his peers’ growing fascination with a new social media app: “Young people were suddenly spending two hours a time on TikTok, obsessed with its exciting, entertaining and fast-moving style. Then, when turning their attention to a dating app, they flatlined. I thought there was something in that. Why not create a dating app for Gen Z that was as electrifying and intoxicating as TikTok and see what happens?”

With 79% of Gen Z disappointed with what’s on offer, (Forbes Health 2024), Ethan understood it was time to design something revolutionary, entertaining and safer. ‘Catfishing’ or creating fake online profiles, is increasingly common on dating apps. To prove the point, Ethan uses a photo of John F. Kennedy for a profile picture on other dating apps. Slide1828 features a companion website, Slidetribe.

This comprehensive resource is packed with vetted legal expertise, personal safety advice and led by sexual citizenship educator Allison Havey. Allison, an author, journalist and educator, has been speaking in hundreds of schools throughout the UK and abroad since 2012. Her purpose, to promote ‘Mutual Respect, Mutual Consent & Mutual Pleasure’ to as many young people as possible so that consensual connections replace potentially problematic ones.

Despite statutory RSE lessons since 2020, almost half of Gen Z believe rape is only defined if the victim physically fights back. Another 28% believe that if you agree to have sex online, then you’re obligated to go through with it. This optional resource provides the scaffolding for healthy relationships that many Gen Z missed out on during lockdown.

Slide1828 launched in Brighton, in October 2024 as part of a phased roll out across the UK. The business is the brainchild of Ethan Martin, founder of Round, a hospitality app which led him to become a nominee of the Great British Tech Awards.
