The Crazy Goose Restaurant – Brighton

Black Rock Restaurant Group to open The Crazy Goose in Brighton this January: A modern pub and dining room for the city.

Black Rock Group will open The Crazy Goose in February 2026, bringing a new food-led pub and dining room to 8 Boyces Street, Brighton, in the original Coal Shed Brighton site. Serving classic British & European comfort food elevated with seasonal creativity, The Crazy Goose takes a focused approach to hospitality: great food, serious drinks and a space that works just as well for a quick pint as it does for long lunches, dinners and Sunday roasts.

It’s premium without being formal, relaxed without being loose. A pub for all – encouraging repeat local trade as much as a destination dining. For Black Rock Restaurants, The Crazy Goose represents a deliberate evolution. While the group is known for their ingredient-led restaurants, this opening leans confidently into the pub format. One that prioritises consistency, warmth and relevance across the week, while still delivering the same food and drink standards the group is recognised for.

The Crazy Goose takes its name from a long-standing family nickname given by Don Camilleri – Managing Direcor Raz Helalat’ father-in-law. Don played a key role in supporting the launch of The Coal Shed in its early days and his guidance and belief in Black Rock helped shape the foundations of the business. So, naming the venue felt like a fitting way to show their appreciation for Don. The kitchen focuses on classic cooking with a contemporary twist.

Expect elevated pub favourites: locally sourced butchers cuts and fresh seafood, honkingly good pies and heritage plates that feel familiar, with an unexpected twist. Menus shift with the seasons; heartier in winter, lighter through the warmer months – while Sunday’s centre around a signature Sunday roast designed for families and groups, with sharing options and immaculate attention to detail. Drinks are treated with equal intent.

The bar offers a small, curated beer selection, a carefully selected wine list, impressive cocktails and quality low/no options. The range is built to flex, encouraging easy weekday drinking, higher-energy weekends and late-night service without losing focus. Set across a ground floor pub and a first-floor dining room called ‘The Blue Room’, The Crazy Goose has been designed to feel warm, confident and lived-in. A home away from home.

For Brighton, The Crazy Goose brings new life to a well-known site, reshaping it into a venue with a strong neighbourhood pull. Its central location – close to the station, The Lanes and the seafront – positions it as a dependable meeting place for locals, visitors and those passing through the city. While the name carries personality, the execution is grounded: no gimmicks, no nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. Just a well-run pub with a clear point of view. The Crazy Goose opens as a confident addition to Brighton’s dining and pub scene. Familiar enough to feel established, considered enough to stand apart, and built to last.
