The Human League

25 Nov, 2024

Mon 9th Dec 18:30 @Brighton Centre

From their roots as an experimental electronic outfit to the global pop behemoth, The Human League has continued to influence and inspire new generations. Formed in Sheffield in 1977 by Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, they asked their old school friend, Phil Oakey, to join on vocals.  They released their first single, Being Boiled, in 1978 and were championed by the NME. The following year they signed to Virgin Records and released two albums. In 1980 Marsh and Ware left to form Heaven 17 and Oakey carried on as The Human League, recruiting two 17 year old students as backing vocalists. Their third album, Dare, produced the worldwide hit Don’t You Want Me and has been hailed as one of pop music’s most influential albums. The band has continued to write and record with the core trio of Oakey, Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley joined by various musicians.
