Destination: St James

1 Mar, 2024

Brighton & Hove Tourism Alliance and St James Business Alliance are partnering with Brighton Metropolitan College to build the city’s St James area as a visitor destination.

The Brighton MET students of Travel and Tourism and Business Studies, guided by Laine Marketing, are launching a social media campaign during English Tourism Week (15th-24th March) to promote this historically rich and eclectic quarter in Kemp Town, Brighton. St James Quarter reaches from Marine Parade to Edward Street and the eastern side of Old Steine to Upper Bedford Street. It is just a short stroll from The Lanes, North Laine and the Cultural Quarter. The area was once known as “Little Laine”, with St James’s Street being the oldest shopping street in Brighton. A fascinating mix of architecture and quirky street art by artists like The Postman live in perfect harmony in this vibrant neighbourhood.

Relax and unwind in a unique atmosphere.

With boutique hotels and B&Bs lining the narrow streets of the St James Quarter, a comfortable night’s sleep is easy to find. You will also be just minutes away from the sea and beaches, iconic Brighton Palace Pier, Sealife Centre, and Volks Railway. The area is well known for its diverse vibe, thanks to its many bars and clubs. But beyond the nightlife, it offers a unique blend of quaint cafes and restaurants with their secret suntrap terraces and patio gardens. A treasure trove of independent shops tempts you with anything from vintage ware and vinyls to the most beautiful flower arrangements imaginable.

Lena Koskela, the founder of Laine Marketing, said, “When Julia Weeks from Brighton & Hove Tourism Alliance got in touch and asked if I wanted to mentor the students in this project, I jumped at the chance. As a resident of the St James area, I can’t wait for visitors to discover the hidden gems and the small independent businesses we love in this neighbourhood.”
