Skate 360

1 Sep, 2023

Ever since I can remember, I’ve absolutely loved roller skating. The magic of gliding along with the wind in my hair brings me so much joy. It gives me a sense of freedom and I wish I could roller skate everywhere as opposed to walking.

I am fortunate to have a highly energetic child so took up roller skating again for the first time since my youth when he was little and we both used to skate the length of the seafront, but finding a consistent surface was tricky. I’ve always thought Brighton needs its own roller disco and the i360 have gone and done exactly that, launching Skate 360 last month to rapturous applause from me.

The Discover team were invited to the press launch which included a DJ and some professional skaters (who I managed to keep up pretty well with) . We were lucky to be some of the first to enjoy the space, with disco tunes as our soundtrack as we tried out the rink. Then it was time to relax as we were treated to a showstopping display of skating acrobatics from Kiki Lahula who wowed us with her spectacular talent and fabulous disco ball unitard.

But what can you expect? Firstly there’s the stunning view of the sea and West Pier. You can also watch the i360 pod at close quarters as it ascends into the sky while you skate on the pastel coloured mural floor, painted by local artist Amber Elise, which not only looks incredible but is smooth as silk to skate on.

The space has a decked area with ample seating adjacent to the rink where you can sit and have coffee and cake as you watch the skaters whizzing past, so if you’re akin to Bambi on Ice when skating and the thought of it terrifies you but, you wanted to bring your children, you could potentially just supervise. (Assuming they are old enough and proficient skaters.)

The rink is a fabulous and much needed addition to the city. And I for one will definitely visit as often as I can. You can bring your own skates or hire them and prices start from £6.50. Sessions last for 45 minutes which is plenty of time to perfect your moves or learn new ones.

You can also hire the space for private parties, fun for all age groups. Book online now. brightoni360.co.uk
