Celebrating 25 years as a band, the Finnish band will present a unique live experience unlike anything they have previously brought to UK audiences. The band wryly describe these performances as acoustic “enough” - while the songs may be reimagined away from their usual electric rock set-up, these shows are anything but stripped back. Far from a simple “unplugged” set, these shows interpret the band’s music in a way that is intimate, expansive and more immersive than ever before. The three brothers, Mikko, Kie and Jonne Von Herzen are joined on stage by their bandmate, multi-instrumentalist Markus Pajakkala whose impressive array of instruments goes far beyond a traditional acoustic set-up. The brothers themselves also show off their insane musical skills, each playing multiple instruments and taking turns on drums, keyboards, guitars, vocals, percussion and whatever else is on hand. Presented in seated theatre and cabaret style venues, these evenings are designed to bring audiences closer to the songs and stories at the heart of the music. Spanning the band’s rich […]

Folklore Sessions Presents An Dannsa Dub + Support November 11th, The Hope & Ruin £14adv | 18+ Nominated for Live act of the Year 2023/24 at the MG Na Trad Awards & The Scottish Altrnative Music Awards. An Dannsa Dub (The Dub Dance in Gaelic) is the brainchild of dub vocalist & producer Tom Spirals and Scottish traditional musician Euan McLaughlin formed in 2020. The project fuses the mystical energy and instruments of traditional Scottish music and Gaelic song with the heavy, meditative, driving basslines digital dub music. Music is one big conversation. And few projects live at the heart of it like An Dannsa Dub. Born from a love of traditional Scottish folk, dub reggae and dance music, together they summon the joyous, communal energy of a cèilidh and a sound system session. Their name comes from the Gaelic for "The Dub Dance". Their sound celebrates the ancient Gaelic and West African rhythms that influenced reggae, which in turn, via sound system culture and dub's pioneering remixes, produced modern dance music. Their live shows and recordings are a seamless, pulsating fusion of all this and more.

Juliet & Romeo It turns out Romeo and Juliet didn't die in a tragic misunderstanding, they grew up and lived happily ever after. Well, they lived at least. They're now 40ish, at least one of them is in the grips of a mid-life crisis and they're haunted by the pressures of being the poster couple for romantic love. From Lost Dog Dance and award-winning director/choreographer Ben Duke comes a humorous and heartfelt duet about love, loss and longevity, as Juliet & Romeo confronts our cultural obsession with youth and provides a relevant take on modern relationships.

Folklore Sessions Presents; Samuel Nicholson + Support Friday 11th November | £10adv The Folklore Rooms | 18+ Samuel Nicholson is a cathartic songwriter, an impassioned singer, and a gifted guitarist. With his love of music set alight by listening to Motown records in the car with his mother, corrupted by hard rock records handed down by his father, and finally formed by his own forays into jazz, folk and experimental music of decades past. Nicholson's last album, Birthday Suit, came after years of searching and longing - serving as a dysfunctional self-portrait and a love letter in equal parts, dancing from electrifying guitar solos to naked vulnerability. Having spent the past two years locked away in the studio, Nicholson returns to the stage for three intimate headline shows, with the release of new music in sight.

On his newest release and sixth Slow Leaves album of new material, The Ruins of Things Unfinished, Davidson explores his thoughts on ambition and the long setting sun of a life dedicated to art and family. "I've somehow made a career of self-perceived failure," he writes. "I've often reflected on whether that mindset fulfills its own prophecy: quite possibly. But I think at heart, I'm not seeking greatness, at least not outside my own little world. Or maybe I've simply given up on misplaced ambitions.
