Book Talk event-Voices Of Queer Britain and the helpline that listened - CITY BOOKS present TASH WALKER & ADAM ZMITH talking about THE LOG BOOKS: VOICES OF QUEER BRITAIN AND THE HELPLINE THAT LISTENED In this new book, Tash Walker and Adam Zmith capture queer lives in stunning detail, embarking on a journey of both collective history and self-discovery and propelling it into the very foreground of our national history. In a crawlspace at the offices of Switchboard, a queer helpline in operation since 1974, lies dozens of log books kept by volunteers describing the phone calls they had taken: a teenager whose parents had kicked them out of home for dressing as the wrong gender; a lesbian terrified of having her baby taken away from her; a man arrested for chatting up another man in a public toilet; a young person wanting to know how to come out. These logs were traces of tens of thousands of queer lives, a bridge to a past hidden from people like Walker and Zmith in their youth, captured by people who lent an ear to those in need. Frame of TENure - BWA Link Collective. The Frame of TENure brings together the work of TEN Brighton Women Artists with deep and varied connections to the city. All live, work or were born in Brighton, and their practices are shaped by its cultural, political and social landscape. Presented at the Fishing Quarter Gallery on the seafront, the exhibition is grounded in a site associated with labour, resilience and collective identity, offering a fitting context for a show rooted in shared experience and mutual support. The exhibition has grown out of the wider Brighton Women Artists (BWA) group, a network formed to empower and uplift women artists by creating more opportunities for exhibiting, networking and professional support. Through collaborative projects, rolling programmes and gallery initiatives at the Sussex Innovation Centre, BWA provides a platform for women artists to be seen, heard and supported on their own terms. Open View at George Gallery George Gallery invites you to Open View, our late night gallery and wine bar, held Thursday to Saturday from 4pm to 11pm at our Brighton space on Duke Street. Open View offers a relaxed opportunity to experience the gallery after hours, with six contemporary artists currently on display. Visitors are welcome to explore the exhibition at their own pace, whether discovering the gallery for the first time or returning to spend more time with the work. Our in gallery wine bar is open throughout the evening, creating an informal setting to engage with the artworks and atmosphere. No reservations are required, and guests are welcome to arrive at any time during opening hours. Project Uncut – A Celebration of Queer Identity & Joy. Project Uncut brings together portraits and stories from more than 40 LGBTQIA+ people who speak openly about queer joy. The exhibition will run from 09 February - 08 March on Brighton seafront next to the i360 for LGBTQ+ History Month. The seafront gallery is free, public and visible. Composed of 9 square stone gabions, the 36 sides allow for a wide range of portraits and stories to be shared in an open air, accessible and free location.

STATUS FLO: International Women's Day AFLO, the poet, hosts an uplifting night of spoken word where artists challenge the status quo with rhythm and flow. At each event, fresh local talent and special guests from across the UK are invited to pick up the mic. Our 'powerful, emotive and urgent' evening returns for an International Women’s Day Special. Ayan Aden, Birmingham’s 24th Poet Laureate (2024–26), joins us as the featured artist, weaving Somali oral tradition into contemporary poetics to explore heritage and belonging. Joining us as our local act is Naomi Wood, a spoken word performer and theatre maker whose bold, rebellious work fuses rage and humour.

Ida Barr Slipped Disco. Brighton favourite, Ida Barr returns to Brighton Dome with her brand new show, Slipped Disco. Ida, proud OAP and rap star, once graced the Music Hall stages of the world, but now she’s out of retirement and mashing up the best of the old-fashioned music hall with the best of contemporary Hip Hop and R’n’B. Slipped Disco includes Ida’s trademark singalongs and unique comedy observations about life as a poverty-stricken older woman in modern London’s East End. Trigger warnings, may contain references to Gaviscon and Deep Heat. An Ida Barr show is communal joy, with fresh rhythms and bars, a chance to celebrate the complexity and absurdity of life in the company of a old-time stage pro.
