Following 2021’s critically lauded ‘Burials’, the band have created their most conceptually ambitious work to date – a meditation on environmental crisis that uses the folklore and history of East Anglia as a lens to examine humanity’s fractured relationship with the natural world. Musically, the quintet, Rachel Watkins (vocals/violin), Xavier Watkins (guitar/electronics), Chris Rogers (guitar), Daniel Carney (bass), and Mark Blay (drums), have pushed deeper into experimental drone territories while maintaining the crystalline folk sensibilities that have become their signature. The result is their most atmospheric and immersive work to date, with vast sonic landscapes that mirror the fenland geography they’re documenting. “…the musical battle between the fuzzy and the light makes Fuzzy Lights special.” MOJO ★★★★ “…a simmering, sinister undercurrent which often explodes with apocalyptic fervour.” SHINDIG ★★★★ “Outstanding. A beguiling, brilliant second LP from the Fenlands band. Like the Dirty Three meeting […]

  • Mary Portas

Ropetackle Arts Centre Little High Street, Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex, United Kingdom

Mary Portas: It’s the 1990s: Britpop is dominating the charts, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell are on the cover of every glossy magazine and British fashion is ripe for reinvention. Leading the charge is a 20-something Mary Portas who has been brought in to revitalise the department store Harvey Nichols, at the time more likely to be associated with dowagers than daring designers. With two babies at home, a sceptical, all-male senior management team to impress, and pressure to bring in new brands and customers, Mary steps into a world she doesn’t fully understand. At first it shows, but that vulnerability quickly reveals itself as vision. By the millennium, the store would be renowned for its outrageous, headline-grabbing, traffic-stopping window displays; patronage by style icon Lady Di and bolly-swigging duo Patsy and Edina of the iconic sitcom Ab Fab – no longer fusty old Harvey Nicols but Harvey Nicks, daaarling! Part memoir, part manifesto for business as a creative act, I Shop, Therefore I Am is the story of how she did it.

Known for her work with Throwing Muses and 50FootWave, alongside a prolific solo career, her songwriting blends raw emotion with inventive musicality. Her live shows are intimate, intense and deeply affecting - built around hypnotic guitar work and a voice that moves between fragile and powerful. With a career spanning decades, Hersh remains a truly singular artist, constantly evolving while staying unmistakably herself.

Pete Fij + special guests at The Green Door Store on Thursday 22nd October Doors: 7.30pm Tickets: £12 in adv + bf/£14 on the door Standing Age restrictions: 18+ Renowned for his unmistakable voice and wry lyrical touch, Pete Fij(alkowski) makes a welcome return with fresh solo material – unveiling songs that brim with melody, wit and understated charm. Pete first burst onto the scene in the early 90s as the frontman and guitarist of post-shoegaze / pre-Britpop band Adorable, whose 1993 album Against Perfection, released on Creation Records, is regularly referred to as a lost indie classic, with the band picking up multiple ‘Single of the Week’ awards in the NME, and topping the Indie charts. Noel Gallagher once told Creation Records’ Alan McGee that dropping Adorable from the label was one of his biggest mistakes, whilst other artists such as Ash, Slowdive and Brian Jonestown Massacre, amongst others, have all expressed their admiration for the band. Following this, he joined up with his brother Krzys to form the One Little Indian band Polak (Swansongs 2000 / Rubbernecking 2002), which took in influences from the likes of Sparklehorse, Radiohead and dEUS, and led The Independent to call him “the […]

  • Amy Matthews – Definitions of Toast

Komedia 44-47 Gardner Street, Brighton, East Sussex, United Kingdom

Amy Matthews - Definitions of Toast TOAST /təʊst/ (verb): Apply heat and impart irreversible change. Toast can’t be bread again. (noun, informal): Something that’s finished / over, or doomed to be. (noun): The act of honouring a sentiment by raising a glass, often to new beginnings. Amy doesn’t get angry and she’s starting to feel left out, so she’s on a quest to feel fury; from what she can discern from the world around her, it appears to be all the rage… literally. Amy is navigating the joy of her first queer relationship whilst dusting herself off from a string of several alcoholic partners. You’d think she’d have plenty to be cross about, and yet, whilst everyone seems to be more furious than ever, she just can’t seem to tap into her own anger - so she’s challenged herself to learn. This lack of wrath may also have something to do with a processing lag that is becoming increasingly disruptive - and comical - in her life. Her emotions seemed to be delivered by carrier pigeon, if they arrive at all. This is a show about being awarded Best Supporting Actor in your own life, the beauty of fully embracing […]
